Trent Alexander-Arnold injury details and possible return date emerge to ease Arne Slot concerns

Trent Alexander-Arnold is hoping to be back before the end of the season and could return by mid-April, claims a recent report.

The defender sustained an ankle injury in last week’s Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. Alexander-Arnold was replaced after 73 minutes after twisting his foot in an awkward position as he went to win the ball near the touchline.

It forced him to sit out the Carabao Cup final defeat against Newcastle at the weekend and his creativity was certainly missed from right-back. With Conor Bradley also injured, Jarell Quansah had to deputize at right-back. That could be the case when Liverpool next plays on 2 April at home to Everton given Alexander-Arnold is unlikely to return in time while no update has emerged on Bradley in weeks.

As for Liverpool’s No. 66, the Daily Mail claims there is “still no definite timescale” on his possible return, but the “injury will not sideline him for the remainder of the season.” The report adds the problem will keep him out for a “matter of weeks rather than months which would see him make a return at some point in mid-April.”

Alexander-Arnold could target matches against West Ham (13 April), Leicester (20 April) and Tottenham (27 April) as possible returns.

It comes as uncertainty continues to surround the academy graduate’s future. It’s expected he will depart when his contract expires at the end of the campaign and join Real Madrid, with the European champions seeing a bid knocked back for Alexander-Arnold in January.

He could also leave alongside Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, whose contracts also expire at the end of the season. “From a Liverpool fan point of view, you are mega, mega disappointed If any of them don’t sign,” said Robbie Fowler earlier this week.

“I don’t think the three of them will, if I’m being totally honest, but you know, it’s going to be one of those things with Liverpool now, and certainly after the performance yesterday [against Newcastle] from some of the players we didn’t see, I think Arne Slot knows he’s maybe going to have a big summer plan.”
