Andrey Santos has revealed that he is yet to receive any direct contact from Chelsea regarding his plans for 2025-26.
Despite having signed from Vasco Da Gama at the start of 2023, Santos is awaiting his first competitive appearance for the Premier League side.
However, that has not prevented the 20-year-old from enhancing his reputation during two loan spells with Strasbourg, a club under the stewardship of Chelsea’s co-owners.
A total of 10 goals and three assists have come from 37 appearances in all competitions, Santos’s performances proving key as Strasbourg bid to earn European football for next season.
Nevertheless, widespread reports have indicated that Chelsea have plans to use the Brazil international in Enzo Maresca‘s squad for 2025-26.
Santos speaks on Chelsea future
In a wide-ranging interview with ESPN, Santos admits that he ‘dreams’ of representing Chelsea in the future, yet it appears that the starlet remains in the dark over when his chance may arrive.
Santos said: “A lot of people send me news (about Chelsea), but I don’t think there’s anything concrete like that. No one has come to me directly and spoken to me.
“It’s in Chelsea’s hands, it’s in my agents’ hands, it’s in my hands. At the moment I’m focused on these last few games, which are very important for Strasbourg.
“When the season ends, we’ll see what happens, everyone will sit down and talk to make the best decision for both sides.
“Of course you want to play for the biggest clubs in Europe, for a very big club like Chelsea. Of course you dream of that moment, but I think the moment is to have a clear head, finish the season here to make the best choice when the season is over.”
Could Santos be a perfect fit?
With Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia the standout picks in the engine room for Chelsea, Santos would arrive at Stamford Bridge as no higher than fourth choice.
That said, there is scope for him to become an important member of Maresca’s squad, Santos currently ranked sixth for successful tackles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 during 2024-25.
Caicedo shares the same strengths as Santos, but the latter has a greater eye for goal than the Ecuador international. Combine the pair together and Maresca could have his perfect blend, particularly when Lavia has struggled to stay fit.
