Liverpool are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Arne Slot looks to bolster his ranks to compete on multiple fronts.
Although the Reds are favourites to win the Premier League title, they lost the Carabao Cup final and are also out of the Champions League and FA Cup.
Liverpool weren’t particularly busy in the last two transfer windows, so the next window could see them go big in order to strengthen the squad.
Now, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have suggested that a striker wanted by the Reds could become the next player to lead the line for England.
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer rave about Liverpool target Liam Delap
The player in question is Liam Delap, who has been shining for Ipswich Town and is currently with the England Under-21s.
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently confirmed that Liverpool have watched Delap multiple times since the turn of the year.
Lineker and Shearer were asked on the latest episode of The Rest is Football who they felt is up next for England at centre-forward after Harry Kane.
He replied: “The (England) Under-21’s played tonight (Friday), it sounds like an amazing game, they lost 5-3 to France who’ve obviously got great youngsters as well.
“Liam Delap did score one of the goals – I like him, I think he’s, you know…
“Harry’s still going strong at the moment but I think it was probably a deliberate ploy from Tuchel not to put him in the squad…”
Shearer then said: “I think Liam Delap will be one that we’ll see in the squad – it’ll be different between now and 18 months time.
“I think, without a doubt, he’ll be one that – if he stays away from injury and if his career keeps going on the way that he’s going at the minute, he’s in a really struggling side at Ipswich- but he’s one of the standouts in their team
“I think he’ll be one, without a doubt, for the future – I’m confident in saying that.”
What Liam Delap could bring to Liverpool
Delap is a young player of the highest quality who is already proven at Premier League level and has a very high ceiling.
He is predominantly a No. 9, but he would be able to play out wide for Arne Slot if needed.
Delap has scored 10 goals in 27 Premier League matches for Ipswich this season, an impressive tally for his first top flight campaign.
Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig has described him as a “complete forward” and likened his style of play to that of former Manchester City star Edin Dzeko.
Chelsea are also interested in Delap alongside Liverpool, while the likes of Newcastle United, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also circling.
