Arne Slot ‘made phone call’ to Trent Alexander-Arnold Liverpool transfer replacement

Liverpool appears to have finally been made aware that Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave the club this offseason, but Arne Slot and his team might already have found a replacement for him in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked with Real Madrid for well over a year, with reports emerging on Tuesday that he has agreed a contract with the Spanish giants, where he could join them in just a few months time. Sky Sports Switzerland has reported that Alexander-Arnold will earn around €15m ($16.1m/£12.5m) per year, where he will link up with his best friend in Jude Bellingham.

And while Liverpool already has a ready-made replacement for him in Conor Bradley, it continues to be linked to another big name at the position. And Slot is said to have already spoken to Frimpong.

Multiple reports have suggested that Slot has had conversations with Frimpong over the phone in looing to convince the marauding full-back to join and be their long-term replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

The 24-year-old boasts impressive attacking numbers, scoring 22 goals in the Bundesliga in the last three years while looking to be a direct replacement for their current no. 66. Spanish publication Defensa Central has even claimed that Frimpong is ‘close’ to a move to Liverpool.

Frimpong reportedly has a £33.5 million ($43.3 million) release clause, with other teams, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich, being linked to signing him this offseason.

Liverpool look set to lose Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer in a crushing blow for the club, with fans regularly questioning how they’ve got to a point in which he had been able to run down his contract.

Of course, Alexander-Arnold is not the only current Liverpool star to be on his last year of their, with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also currently without a deal after the 2024/25 season. Talks around those two players re-signing have been much more positive, with neither player really linked to a club as Alexander-Arnold has been with Real Madrid.

However, that will not ease many fans minds with a lack of any talks around the two agreeing to a new deal, with Liverpool said to have a policy of not re-signing players to lengthy deals when into their 30’s.

Both players appear to want to stay with the club, but they have both individually stated that they have no idea what will happen after the season, solely focussing on seeing out the year where they close in on bringing Liverpool it’s second ever Premier League title.
