Exclusive: What the FA have told Everton after Jarrad Branthwaite is left out of Tuchel’s first England squad

3 Min Read

Everton have dismissed suggestions that Jarrad Branthwaite could need to leave the club in order to win an England place under Thomas Tuchel, TBR Football can reveal.

Branthwaite was left out by Tuchel for his first England selection, who instead chose to call up Newcastle United’s Dan Burn.

The Everton centre-back instead had to make do with a spot in Lee Carsley’s U21 side, despite already playing for seniors during Gareth Southgate’s tenure.

The decision came despite Branthwaite’s strong form this season, particularly since David Moyes made his return to Goodison Park.

The 22-year-old has been troubled by a groin injury this season but has looked as good as ever alongside James Tarkowski since returning to full fitness.

Everton assured Jarrad Branthwaite doesn’t need to leave for England chances

That considered, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Everton have been assured by the FA that Branthwaite’s England chances are not being held back by playing for the club.

Everton strongly believe that Branthwaite playing for them is not an issue, as they’ve been told by the FA.

Of course, after failing to land a place in Tuchel’s squad, it has been claimed that Branthwaite could look to leave and could therefore kick off a summer rush for his signature.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked and Real Madrid are also interested in Branthwaite, where his former boss Carlo Ancelotti is in charge.

Branthwaite was the subject of a bid from Man United last year, one that was swiftly rejected.

Everton stand firm on Jarrad Branthwaite valuation

At the time of United’s bid, Everton’s stance was that it would take a bid of around £80m to sign the defender and that valuation has not changed.

Branthwaite is under contract with the club until 2027 and there is also an option of an additional 12-months included.

As previously revealed, Everton want to give Branthwaite a new contract this summer and the club are confident that he will agree fresh terms.

After enjoying something of a turning point on loan at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022/23 season, Branthwaite has now amassed 73 appearances for Everton in total.

And the club would be loath to lose the defender on the eve of their move to their new Bramley Dock home.

Everton want to make a statement signing this summer as opposed to losing any of their key players.
