‘Wow’: Tyrone Mings says midfielder Aston Villa signed for £17m is the best player he’s ever played with

Tyrone Mings has played with some incredible players during his career.

The Aston Villa defender has worked with some world-class talents during his time at Villa Park and with the England national team.

Tyrone Mings has played with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans at Aston Villa, while he’s worked with players such as Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden for England.

Kane is a world-class player, while Jude Bellingham is an absolute superstar at this point.

Speaking to The Sun, Mings was asked to name the best player he’s ever played with, and he gave an interesting answer.

The best player Tyrone Mings has played with

Mings has played with some top players over the years.

However, according to the defender, his greatest ever teammates is none other than Philippe Coutinho.

It’s easy to forget that Coutinho is, technically, still an Aston Villa player as he’s out on loan in Brazil right now.

Coutinho was praised when he first arrived at Aston Villa for £17m, but Coutinho’s performances quickly dipped and he was shipped out.

However, according to Mings, when Coutinho first arrived the Brazilian blew everyone away with his quality.

“Who’s the best player you have ever played with?” Mings was asked.

“That is a great question. I’m going to say Coutinho. I think when he came everyone was blown away by his quality. I’ll go for Coutinho for the wow factor,” Mings said.

Is Philippe Coutinho still an Aston Villa player?

It feels like it was a lifetime ago that Coutinho arrived at Aston Villa.

Indeed, Steven Gerrard signed Coutinho in January 2022, and it’s fair to say a lot has changed since then.

Villa are now a Champions League contending side, and, remarkably, technically, Coutinho is still an Aston Villa player.

He’s currently out on loan in Brazil, and he’s unlikely to ever play for the club again, but he is still a Villa player.

Mings says that Coutinho is the best player he’s ever played with, and that is an interesting claim.

Indeed, while Coutinho was a world-class player at his best, he was seemingly past his prime when he was at Aston Villa.

Coutinho did have a few moments in a Villa shirt that were exciting, but, as the stats show, he wasn’t consistent enough.

Philippe Coutinho stats for Aston Villa
Games 43
Goals 6
Assists 3

In terms of pure ability and talent, Coutinho may be one of the best players to ever play for Aston Villa, but in terms of how he performed on the pitch for the team, he really didn’t live up to expectations.

There’s a reason Coutinho is currently out on loan at Vasco da Gama, and, sadly, it looks like his career at the top-level is over.
