Dominik Szoboszlai’s reaction spoke volumes after Trent Alexander-Arnold was booed by Liverpool fans at Anfield.
The England international received a mixed reception inside Anfield after coming on as a second half substitute during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
He subsequently played Mikel Merino onside in the build to Arsenal’s equaliser to make it 2-2, which did little to improve the heated atmosphere.
Alexander-Arnold announced on Monday that he would be leaving the new Premier League champions on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Reports claim that the Liverpool academy graduate has already reached a verbal agreement to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Perhaps understandably, his decision his divided the Reds fanbase, and there were audible boos when he replaced Conor Bradley during the second half against Arsenal.
That continued after full-time, with the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele reporting that a small sections of supporters in the Kop were booing Alexander-Arnold after he clapped the home supporters.
Steele went on to claim that Reds midfielder Szoboszlai appeared to be gesturing towards the Kop to ‘lay off’ the England international.
Manager Arne Slot was asked about the incidents after the final whistle, and told reporters: “It is a privilege to live in Europe where everyone can have and express their opinion.
“All of the fans are not happy with him leaving. You can understand how mixed the emotions were in his head too.”

Reds icon Jamie Carragher, meanwhile, said he ‘does not agree’ with the boos but also added that Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave means he should not get a ‘send-off’ from fans.
“If Trent does continue to play – and that’s something for the manager to think about, because he doesn’t need this circus or this talk about Trent – he’s moving on, he’s left the football club,” he said.
“I’ve said before, I don’t know about a send-off or anything like that. He’s choosing to leave.
“I don’t agree with that [the boos] today, but I don’t think there should be a thing where he’s given this big thing at the end of the season, or he’s given a microphone to give a big speech in front of the crowd. He’s choosing to leave the football club.”
