Huijsen recently appeared on a podcast to discuss his breakout season with the Cherries.

However, the 19-year-old was left speechless when the host asked him about drugs.

The presenter asked: “This is a bit of a random question and it’s probably an expected answer but it really seems to me like you are pretty medicated on weed. Like, do you smoke weed?”

Amsterdam-born Huijsen responded by awkwardly laughing as the podcast co-host covered his face.

He then answered by explaining: “Alright, so basically, for everyone watching my eyes, I have sleepy eyes.

“I have it from my mum cause my mum has sleepy eyes. I’m not high. I’m sorry, I’m not high.

“We’re not allowed to take weed, it’s doping control. I’m not high, it’s how I was born, I can’t do anything about it.”

Huijsen has been enjoying a brilliant first season in England having joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer.

He has since made 27 appearances across all competitions for Andoni Iraola’s side, scoring twice from centre-back.

Despite signing a six-year deal less than 12 months ago, the Spaniard is already attracting transfer interest from elsewhere.

talkSPORT understands Liverpool are the latest Premier League club to join the race to sign Huijsen and could rival Real Madrid for his signature.

Meanwhile, teammate Justin Kluivert has also suggested the teenager will leave the Vitality Stadium ahead of next season.

In an interview with MARCA, the winger said: “I know that next year he won’t be with us.”

Huijsen will be available for Bournemouth’s FA Cup quarter-final this weekend.

The Cherries host Manchester City on Sunday for a place in the last four, live on talkSPORT.

He comes into the match fresh from making his Spain debut during the international break.

Huijsen came off the bench to make his debut against the Netherlands last week in their Nations League quarter-final first leg.

The former Dutch youth international then started Sunday’s second leg, providing an assist for Lamine Yamal as Spain advanced on penalties.
