Real Madrid pushing for $54M Liverpool ‘target’ after Trent Alexander-Arnold update

4 Min Read

As if Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid wasn’t bad enough, the Spanish giant could pile on the misery for Liverpool this summer by signing one of its transfer targets.

Alexander-Arnold looks to be on the verge of swapping Anfield for the Bernabeu, with reports of his move to Spain coming to a head on Tuesday. Various outlets have suggested that terms have already been agreed, and while other reports claim Real still needs to finalize a deal, it does seem inevitable that the right-back will be heading to Madrid.

Confirmation is yet to come from Liverpool or Real, and there are suggestions that Alexander-Arnold may be delaying an announcement as the Reds push for the Premier League title. His departure though would be a big blow for Liverpool ahead of what will be a big summer.

Although Arne Slot’s side is heading for the title, recent weeks have shown there are a number of areas in his squad that need upgrading. A number of news faces have already been tipped to make the move to Anfield, and Liverpool could have even more work on its hands if Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also depart.

One possible replacement for the latter could be Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, who has continued to impress during the international break after making his senior debut for Spain against the Netherlands, where he came up against Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.

He has been linked with a move to Liverpool, although reports in Spain are suggesting that he could end up following Alexander-Arnold to the Bernabeu instead.

According to AS, Real is eyeing up Huijsen, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United also linked in the report. It’s suggested though that Los Blancos hold an advantage in that the 19-year-old has told officials in Spain that he is a fan of the club.

Real is said to be “amazed” by the way Huijsen rose to the challenge against the Netherlands, deeming him to have the “personality necessary to play for Madrid.” It’s also suggested that he would work well with Raul Asencio, who has emerged as one of the club’s brightest prospects this season.

A summer move for Huijsen looks likely, with even his Bournemouth teammates admitting that they don’t expect him to stay beyond this season. The teenager though has insisted he isn’t thinking about his future at the moment though, having been asked about a potential move to Madrid during the international break.

“Would I like to play for Real Madrid? At the moment I’m not thinking about it,” Huijsen said. “I’m thinking about finishing the season well and then when the right time comes, we’ll see. It’s an honour that such an important team is interested in you. But we have to continue working and stay humble.”
