He has not quite developed enough to make it at Bayern.
Big things were expected of Bayern Munich player Paul Wanner in his loan at Heidenheim. All of Germany had known his talent for years now and were finally about to witness it consistently in the Bundesliga. He was tipped to be the breakout star of the campaign and it all seemed so promising as he tallied five goal contributions in his first three games at the club.
But Wanner is still just a teenager and, so, understandably things did not continue at the frightening pace they started. Heidenheim have developed into the worst team in the Bundesliga after Matchday 6, losing game after game after game, and Wanner simply went under with the rest of the team.
Therefore, it makes sense, however unfortunate it may be, that Bayern reportedly want Wanner to pursue another loan destination before joining Bayern’s squad, via Sport Bild (and captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Paul Wanner is expected to extend his contract at Bayern beyond 2027. The plan is to loan him out again in the summer to a club playing in Europe next season.
Wanner’s loan destinations so far have been promoted club SV Elversberg in the 2. Bundesliga and Heidenheim. Technically Wanner was playing in Europe with Heidenheim, as they made it to the playoff round of the Conferences League, but the chance to play higher up the table with better players should theoretically be just the right step he needs before going back to Bayern.
