It looks like Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s chapter with Liverpool might be drawing to a close, and Arne Slot has been advised to turn to his squad for a replacement. That is despite all the noise surrounding Jeremie Frimpong.
Jamie Carragher – who was left disappointed by the Real Madrid news – is championing the promotion of Conor Bradley to first-choice right-back despite Liverpool having identified two potential signings. With Alexander-Arnold, one of Liverpool’s key figures, likely to depart imminently as his contract winds down, Madrid seems poised to snap him up on a free transfer, fueling speculation that an agreement is nearly finalized.
Such a pivotal exit would leave the Reds with a significant void on their right flank, potentially just one of multiple positions requiring reinforcements. Over the last year and a half, Bradley has been showcasing his potential and impressing under Slot’s management, as well as when Jurgen Klopp was at the helm.
While he’s been in Alexander-Arnold’s shadow, Carragher firmly believes the homegrown talent is ready to step up, especially given the lack of top-tier right-backs currently available.
Carragher previously stated on Sky Sports: “When Liverpool have had Conor Bradley in the team this season, he’s looked the real deal, and I don’t think the right-back market this summer is alive with lots of amazing right-backs.
“So I think the way for Liverpool to go if Trent moves on is for Conor Bradley to be given his head, but also for Liverpool to buy a utility player who can play across the back-four, like what Joe Gomez has been in the past few years.”
Liverpool has been linked with Andrea Cambiaso at Juventus and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. Both of these would be starters if they signed in the summer and further block Bradley’s path to the first team.
Interestingly the news comes amid rumors Bradley could well soon commit his future to Liverpool by signing a new contract. The defender is sidelined at presenter with Slot’s last update on the defender coming in February.
“He is out for a few weeks,” Slot said. “I cannot tell exactly how many, but it is clear that he went off with a muscle injury and that it is going to take a while before he is back.”
