Lothar thinks Müller should try the MLS before closing shop.
The Thomas Müller contract situation at Bayern Munich has been an unpleasant experience for all parties. With several factors in play, most of which are yet to be openly disclosed by the management and the player, it seems to be certain that Müller’s time at the club has come to an end.
Former Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus as always, chimed in on the situation, discussing what Müller could further do. Per Bild, Matthäus stated that he believes Müller still has something to offer as a player, which he can do in the MLS.
The general consensus has been that the board would like to have him back in a different role after he hangs his boots up and Matthäus echoed the sentiment, stating that the Raumdeuter could take on a role at the club later.
“He should spend two years in the US, broaden his horizons. It will do him good for his development and could put him in a position to take on a role at Bayern afterwards,” he explained.
The situation has been a communication wreck since neither the club nor the player have come to any sort of agreement or discussed anything at all. The player seems to harbour a lot of resentment, as reflected in his statements so far. Matthäus places the onus onto the club for mending this broken relationship in order to not jeopardise what could be Müller’s future with the club.
“Thomas might be upset because there hasn’t been enough communication. Bayern must not miss the opportunity to maintain their relationship with Thomas in such a way that he’s willing to take on an important role at the club in the future,” he declared.
Matthäus further hypothesised that there may be some dispute between Ehrenpräsident Uli Hoeness and sporting director Max Eberl, contributing to the issue at hand: “It seems as though the chemistry isn’t quite right, as if things aren’t as harmonious in the leadership team as one would wish for in a club like Bayern.”
With the situation wide open at the moment, fans can only sit, wait, and hope for a good resolution to what looks like a mess of a situation.
