Defender set for Chelsea return after loan spell

1 Min Read

Swiss defender Renato Veiga seems set to return to Chelsea in the summer when his loan spell with Juventus ends.

The 21 year old joined the Serie A club in the hope of regular game time, but things have not worked out as planned. After a good start which saw him play three league matches and two games in the Champions League, he picked up an injury which ruled him out for several weeks.

When he did return against Fiorentina he was substituted early in the second half, and now there are reports that he has not convinced enough people at the Italian club to make them want to exercise their option to buy him.

Veiga has not been helped by the fact that he has joined a club in crisis. Juventus are fifth int eh table currently, 12 points behind leaders Inter Milan, and they chose the international break to sack their manager Thiago Motta, who they only appointed at the start of the season.

Former player Igor Tudor has now been put in charge.
