Report: Arsenal set to open talks over ‘incredible’ £63m striker who Andrea Berta has identified as a key target

Arsenal are set for a busy summer in the transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his ranks in pursuit of glory on multiple fronts.

The Gunners remain in the Champions League picture but are out of both domestic cups and now appear unlikely to win the Premier League title with Liverpool so far ahead.

Arsenal were in need of a centre-forward long before the injury crisis in attack which seriously hampered their campaign.

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has long been a target for the Gunners and, now Berta is at the helm, it looks as though Arsenal are intensifying their interest.

Arsenal set to open talks over Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal are set to open talks to try and sign Gyokeres as they step up their search for a new striker, according to GiveMeSport.

The in-form Sweden has been identified as a key target by Berta, who has been tasked with bolstering the Gunners’ attacking ranks, and they are preparing to make contact over him.

In addition, it has been reported that members of the Arsenal hierarchy have given guarantees that their budget will be able to stretch to complete the signing of Gyokeres.

Meetings are expected to take place in the coming weeks to outline Gyokeres’ personal demands and the necessary fee to reach an agreement with Sporting, added the report.

How much Arsenal could end up paying for Viktor Gyokeres

Fabrizio Romano recently spoke of a “pact” between Sporting and Gyokeres that should see him move for less than his €100million (£84million) release clause.

Romano said Sporting would be open to doing business at around €65-75million (£55-63million) amid interest from “many clubs” eager to sign Gyokeres.

“The package that sporting could accept could be around €65-75million,” said Romano.

“That’s a very good price for one of the best strikers in Europe in Europe in terms of numbers.

“He’s scoring an incredible amount of goals, he’s showing his quality, he’s showing his obsession for the goal.

“Gyokeres is a fantastic striker and many clubs around Europe are closely monitoring the situation.

“I don’t want to come here and mention 10 clubs but really all the top clubs in Europe are going very strong for Gyokeres in summer.

“And they’ve been informed that this price between €65-75 million could be enough to land one of the best strikers in Europe in the summer.”

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently confirmed that Gyokeres is indeed a player who Arsenal scouts like.

It’s certainly a case of watching this space over the coming weeks as Berta looks to be proactive in terms of prospective signings ahead of the summer transfer window opening.
