Liverpool emerged victorious in the Merseyside Derby against Everton.
The Reds were nowhere near their best at Anfield on Wednesday night, but Arne Slot’s side, as they have done many times this season already, managed to get the job done.
Diogo Jota’s well-taken goal in the second half proved to be enough for the hosts to win the derby last night, but Everton could’ve easily scored a goal or two of their own.
David Moyes’ men, despite playing well for large parts of the game, could not do that, which is why they have lost their bragging rights.
Harvey Elliott hails Caoimhin Kelleher after Liverpool beat Everton
Caoimhin Kelleher got the nod to start for Liverpool against Everton on Wednesday night.
That is because Alisson suffered a head injury while playing for Brazil, and concussion protocols meant that he had to miss the game.
Kelleher didn’t have a lot to do all game – Everton didn’t even have a shot on target.
However, when Beto went charging through on goal, the goalkeeper made himself big, and that must have played a part in the Toffees striker hitting the post.
Apart from that, Kelleher’s distribution was fairly good, and he more than held his own inside the box against Everton’s big boys.
That must have impressed Harvey Elliott, who was an unused substitute.
After Kelleher posted a picture of himself on Instagram to celebrate his performance and the win, Elliott commented: “Unreal!”
The latest on Caoimhin Kelleher’s Liverpool’s future
Kelleher is definitely up there with the best second-choice goalkeepers in the world.
The 26-year-old is more than good enough to start for almost all the sides in the Premier League, but he has one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Alisson ahead of him at Liverpool.
The Irishman is expected to be sold this summer, and TBR Football exclusively revealed in February that Chelsea and Newcastle are among five clubs interested in Kelleher.
Tottenham are also interested in Kelleher, whom Liverpool are demanding £25 million to sell this summer (GiveMeSport).
