Adrien Rabiot says Liverpool once had a player who is even better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Who is the best player in the history of football?

That sounds like a difficult question to answer, but, ultimately, there are usually only a few contenders for that crown.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona and Pele are seen as the four most acceptable answers to that question, and it’s hard to argue against any of their cases.

Cristiano Ronaldo is an all-time great, while Lionel Messi is a true phenom of the game.

However, every now and then you get some more left-field shouts when this question is posed, and speaking on the France national team’s TikTok page, Adrien Rabiot has shared an interesting view on who he believes is the greatest player of all-time.

Adrien Rabiot says Steven Gerrard is the greatest player ever

Adrien Rabiot was tasked with naming who he believes are the three greatest players of all-time.

The midfielder gave some interesting answers here, as he snubbed Messi, Ronaldo and co in favour of Kaka, Zinedine Zidane, and, most interestingly, Steven Gerrard.

“The player that I really liked a lot was Steven Gerrard. Since I was very young, he played his entire career at Liverpool he was very iconic in the Premier League, he was able to attack, to defend, he had an incredible shot, he scored a lot of goals and he was also a player who put his team first. This is the type of player and character that I like,” Rabiot said.

What Rafa Benitez said about Steven Gerrard

Gerrard doesn’t get a mention often when it comes to the greatest of all-time conversation, but there are some within the game who have this point of view.

Rafa Benitez has managed some incredible players during his career, including Cristiano Ronaldo, but Benitez says Gerrard is the best player he’s ever coached.

“He was great, he was great obviously. I’ve said it before, he’s the best player I have ever coached. He was very good and at the beginning when we were knowing each other,” Benitez said.

“I was going to pull you up on that, you coached Ronaldo, you think Steven was a better player than Cristiano?” Benitez was asked.

“In terms of a complete player. Stevie has the power, he could score goals, good in the air, both feet, he could shoot from distance, short, deliveries, defending, he has energy, he trained well, a good professional. He was great from the beginning,” Benitez said

Of course, most would disagree with this point of view, but some do consider Gerrard to be one of the very best footballers ever, and that’s a testament to just how amazing he is.
