Jamie Carragher may have some answering to do.

The Liverpool icon was asked by Sky Sports for his thoughts on Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne, who announced he would depart the club at the end of the season.

Unsurprisingly, Carragher waxed lyrical about the Belgian great.

But it was a certain comment Carragher made that will have raised eyebrows among Liverpool supporters because of who he left out.

Namely, Mohamed Salah.

“For me, he’s (De Bruyne) been the best player in the Premier League for the last four or five years,” Carragher said.

“Besides Thierry Henry, the best foreign player we’ve seen in the Premier League.

“I would go as far to say that he would get in my all-time Premier League XI.

“He’s one of the greatest players we’ve ever seen grace our shores and play in our league.

“When Liverpool and Manchester City were head-to-head going for league titles for what felt like four or five seasons, he was the difference.

“Liverpool could match Manchester City I think in every other area but that position in terms of an attacking midfield player.

“I always felt when Manchester City just got the edge by a point or two, Kevin De Bruyne was the difference.”

De Bruyne will depart City as their record holder for the most assists in the Premier League with a whopping 115, 25 more than David Silva.

In total, the 33-year-old has registered 106 goals and 174 assists in 413 appearances across all competitions for City.

De Bruyne is also a two-time Premier League player of the season and a five-time member of the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year.

As for Salah, he boasts an incredible tally of 182 goals and 85 assists in 280 Premier League appearances for the Reds.

In his eight seasons at Anfield, Salah has scored less than 20 league goals just three times.

Despite his goalscoring prowess, Salah has been named in the PFA’s Premier League team of the year just three times and player of the season once.

But the Egyptian superstar is a raging hot favourite to pick up the player of the season gong for a second time thanks to his blistering form for Liverpool this season.

Under first-year coach Arne Slot, Salah leads the golden boot race with 27 goals and tops the assists charts with 17, seven more than Antonee Robinson, Bukayo Saka and Mikkel Damsgaard.

Perhaps Carragher may want to revise his answer at the season’s end.
