One of Tottenham Hotspur’s top summer transfer targets proved against FC Barcelona why Johan Lange must make sure he arrives in North London this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are set for another big summer of change with doubts over Ange Postecoglou’s future and the squad in desperate need of reinforcement.

Current sporting director Johan Lange will be one of the key men in helping bring in new faces to Spurs this summer, and there is one key player he needs to sign.

What the Spanish media said about Johnny Cardoso’s ‘very good’ performance vs Barcelona

That player is Johnny Cardoso, as the USA international once again proved why he is one of the most underrated midfielders in Europe right now.

The Spanish media have been hailing his performance against Barcelona as Real Betis managed to hold La Liga’s leaders to a 1-1 draw.

Cardoso also impressed in Betis’ recent win over Sevilla, and he then followed it up a week later with another strong display against Barca.

After the match, ElDemarque gave him an 8/10 and wrote: “He’s very good. Omnipresent. He tried to shed some light on the ball output, he got active in pressing, he tried to provide solutions and he worked hard in physical work.”

There was another 8/10 rating from Estadio Deportivo, who said: “He worked his magic in the middle of the pitch. He slotted in between the center-backs when needed and gave his all to fight for every opportunity and press relentlessly, never squandering the ball when he had it or stopping his own players’ quick runs.”

Betisweb were also full of praise for the midfielder: “Silent but indispensable. He was the balance of the midfield, occupying space, pressing intelligently, and always creating a clean passing lane. Although he didn’t take many risks in attack, his play was consistent. Tactically impeccable, one of those players who anchors a unit without needing to shine.”

Tottenham must sign Johnny Cardoso as perfect Yves Bissouma replacement

Tottenham must take up their £20.7 million option to sign Cardoso, as that fee could prove to be an absolute steal for such a talented player.

TBR Football revealed last month that Cardoso is keen to sign for Tottenham and it is looking increasingly likely that a deal will happen. Meanwhile, Betis already believe Tottenham will sign Cardoso.

Yves Bissouma is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, with the number six role at Spurs proving a position in which the squad is quite weak.

However, Cardoso could provide an immediate fix and his recent displays for Betis have proved why Lange must get the deal done.
