TBR Football can exclusively confirm what Liverpool sources are now saying about the club’s contract talks with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool are set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Van Dijk and Salah, like Alexander-Arnold, are set to be out of contract once the season ends, which has led to much concern among fans.
However, it looks as though contract talks with the Liverpool captain and the talismanic Reds forward are on the right path.
Liverpool closing in on new contracts for Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah
Liverpool sources have confirmed to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that they believe they are close to finalising deals for Van Dijk and Salah.
TBR Football revealed last month that talks were due with Van Dijk and Salah in the international window, and that is what happened and although no agreement was reached progress was made.
We are told that FSG have come to the table with fresh intent and have seemingly relented in their instance of a one year deal.
A source close to both players has confirmed to TBR Football that Liverpool’s belief a deal is a close is ‘well placed’ and that both deals could be in place by Easter, or at least a broad agreement.
Liverpool insist that talks with both players had never stopped and, despite some hurdles, the patience from all sides has paid off.
The additional benefits of keeping Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah
Van Dijk and Salah have been two of the Premier League’s best players for a number of years now and it’s evident they’re still playing at the highest level.
Losing Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah in one summer would’ve been unfathomable, but it looks as though Liverpool will retain two out of three.
Van Dijk and Salah are also key figures in the dressing room and in training, their presence and professionalism very much inspirational.
In addition, TBR Football has been told that Liverpool believe keeping Salah could potentially play a part in attracting further attacking talent this summer.
The pull factor of having players like Van Dijk and Salah at a club cannot be understated, with players potentially tempted by the opportunity of playing alongside two of the greatest.
