Liverpool royalty will be blowing out 83 candles on his birthday cake on Thursday, April 10, as the Reds’ all-time record appearance maker Ian Callaghan celebrates another year around the sun.

The former midfielder has long held the distinction of playing more matches for the six-time European champions than any other man before or indeed after him, racking up an astounding 857 appearances between 1960 and 1978.

While success was sporadic during the first half of Callaghan’s Liverpool career, the 83-year-old finished his time at Anfield with no fewer than 18 major honours, including the European Cup in each of his final two seasons.

Callaghan also took home five First Division titles, two UEFA Cups and two FA Cups, not to mention being a part of England’s 1966 World Cup squad, albeit one often forgotten about given that he did not play in the final.

To celebrate Callaghan’s birthday, Sports Mole challenges you to name Liverpool’s top 10 appearance makers of all time.
