Man United forward ‘being monitored by Italian clubs’ as Red Devils ‘consider summer sale’

4 Min Read

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund‘s situation is reportedly being monitored by a number of Serie A clubs, with the Denmark international potentially being on the move during this summer’s transfer window.

The 22-year-old scored 16 times in all competitions during his first season at Old Trafford, but it has been a struggle for him during the 2024-25 campaign, only managing eight goals in 41 outings in all competitions.

Hojlund has been impressive in the Europa League this season, scoring five times and registering three assists in 10 appearances, but he has only managed three goals and one assist in 26 Premier League appearances.

The Dane has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2028, with the option of a further year, but there has recently been speculation surrounding his future, with Man United believed to be considering letting him leave.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a number of Serie A teams are keeping an eye on the situation, and ‘concrete contacts’ will be made if it becomes clear that Man United are prepared to sell him.

Hojlund ‘could leave Man United this summer’

Hojlund has scored 24 times and registered six assists in 84 appearances for Man United, while he managed 10 goals and four assists in 34 outings for Atalanta BC ahead of his move to England.

The striker’s stock in Italy remains high due to his strong showings for Atalanta, and he has shown glimpses of his potential at Old Trafford, but consistency has been a problem for the centre-forward.

Joshua Zirkzee has also struggled this season, only managing six goals and three assists in 46 appearances for the club following his arrival from Bologna during last summer’s transfer window.

The Netherlands international is also already being linked with a departure, with a number of clubs in Serie A also said to be interested in the 23-year-old, who has a contract at Man United until the end of the 2028-29 campaign.

Should Man United sell Hojlund or Zirkzee?

Man United are preparing to bring in a new centre-forward this summer, so it is likely that one of Hojlund or Zirkzee will leave.

Zirkzee’s form in recent months has arguably been better than Hojlund’s in terms of general play, but it is difficult to see where he fits into Ruben Amorim‘s 3-4-3 system moving forward, so an exit for the Dutchman does make sense.

Hojlund has been unable to perform this season, but the Dane has a higher ceiling than his fellow striker, and with help next term, there is every chance that he could develop into the player that Man United thought that they were signing in 2023.

Money talks, but it is difficult to imagine any Italian club coming up with a big enough offer to convince Man United to part ways with Hojlund, as it could be a sale that they are made to regret in the not too distant future.
