Report: Tottenham now decide whether they want to sell Destiny Udogie amid Manchester City links

3 Min Read

Destiny Udogie has been linked with a shock summer move to Manchester City.

Hugo Viana eyes Udogie’s arrival at Manchester City and what is interesting is that the Sky Blues’ incoming sporting director has admired him since his time at Udinese — which goes to show how highly he rates the Italian.

On one hand, some Tottenham fans might feel that it is best to cash in on Udogie, whose form has been questioned this season. But considering how impressive the 22-year-old was at Spurs during his debut season, it would be harsh to completely write him off as well.

Regardless, Tottenham have decided whether they wish to part ways with Destiny Udogie as Manchester City seem keen on his signature.

Tottenham won’t entertain offers for Destiny Udogie amid Manchester City interest

The Mirror have reported that Tottenham are unwilling to even entertain any offers for Udogie, who is on Manchester City’s links of defensive transfer targets ahead of the summer window.

Recently, Udogie underperformed for Italy against Germany as well and while his form for Tottenham has been far from convincing this campaign, Spurs internally believe that selling him would be unnecessary as they rate him highly and simply believe his season has been impacted by injuries.

From Manchester City’s perspective, the youngster is likely one of their transfer targets rather their number one option to provide Josko Gvardiol competition at left-back.

For much of his time under Ange Postecoglou, the former Udinese defender has looked like the real deal and Tottenham internally feel that signing Udogie for just £15 million (Sky Sports) was a brilliant bit of business.

Does Destiny Udogie want to leave Tottenham?

But ultimately, the Verona-born full-back will decide where his future lies.

On one hand, the prospect of playing under Pep Guardiola and competing for trophies could be tempting for him.

However, the report has mentioned that Udogie’s intention is to return to full fitness and rediscover his form for Tottenham next season — which indicates that his sights are not set on heading to Manchester City.

With Udogie’s contract set to expire only in 2030, City are likely to have a difficult time trying to prise him away as Daniel Levy’s reputation as one of football’s toughest negotiators.
