Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing up a big-money move for a Premier League defender in the summer transfer window.
The North Londoners have endured a disappointing 2024-25 campaign on the domestic front and are in danger of failing to qualify for Europe next season.
Ange Postecoglou‘s side are currently down in 14th place in the Premier League table after losing 16 of their 31 matches, sitting eight points behind the top half and 14 points behind Aston Villa in seventh.
Tottenham’s season ultimately rests on their Europa League campaign, with Postecoglou under pressure to steer his side through a challenging quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt and go all the way to win the competition to secure Champions League football for next season.
Spurs’ transfer activity will likely depend on whether they qualify for Europe and a number of possible targets are understood to have already been lined up ahead of the summer.
Tottenham eyeing up summer move for Mitchell?
According to talkSPORT, Tottenham are preparing a summer swoop for Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell.
The report adds that the North Londoners are eyeing a move for the two-cap England international as a potential replacement for Destiny Udogie, who has been linked with Manchester City and is said to have ‘endured a poor season’.
While some reports have claimed that Mitchell is due to see his contract at Selhurst Park expire at the end of June, it is understood that the defender’s deal actually runs until the summer of 2027.
Palace are therefore said to be in a strong position to demand a fee of around £50m for the 25-year-old academy graduate.
Mitchell one of several Palace stars linked with summer exit
Since making his senior debut in July 2020, Mitchell has made 180 appearances for Crystal Palace across all competitions, including 30 Premier League starts this season.
Mitchell has developed into a left wing-back since the arrival of Oliver Glasner and has managed to keep hold of his regular starting spot despite the January arrival of Ben Chilwell on loan from Chelsea.
The Brent-born defender, who was linked with Manchester United in January, is one of the latest Palace players being tipped to leave this summer, but the Eagles will be reluctant to part ways with too many star names ahead of next season.
The likes of captain Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton and Jean-Philippe Mateta are all attracting interest from several top clubs, but Palace will only entertain significant offers they believe represent the true value of each player.
