Real Madrid have given themselves quite the mountain to climb after their first-leg defeat to Arsenal in North London.
The holders see themselves on the brink of elimination after two stunning Declan Rice free kicks and a Mikel Merino strike secured a 3-0 victory for the Gunners.
A result deemed by many to be Mikel Arteta’s greatest ever so far, the Arsenal boss received big praise from Thierry Henry post-match.
But for Carlo Ancelotti, he will need his star forwards on top form in the second leg against an Arsenal side renowned for their defensive prowess, and he will hope his side can complete a miraculous turnaround.
Vinicius Jr implies Madrid can still advance against Arsenal
With the attacking personnel of Real Madrid, the general consensus is that the tie is not yet over.
Brazilian superstar Vinicius Junior took to social media on his Instagram story, insisting Los Blancos can still progress despite the deficit.
In a message to the supporters, he wrote: “No excuses. Bad game. We must improve and fight at the Bernabeu.
“Magic things have already happened at our home… and we can do it again.”
Madrid are capable of ridiculous comebacks
Comebacks at the Bernabeu have been a staple in Real Madrid’s recent Champions League success.
In 2016, the Spanish giants suffered a shock 2-0 defeat away at Wolfsburg, before a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick secured a 3-2 aggregate victory for Zinedine Zidane’s side, who would go on to win the competition.
In 2022 they were in a similar predicament as they went into the second half of the second leg 2-0 down on aggregate against a star-studded PSG side consisting of an Mbappe, Messi, Neymar front three.
But the mentality monsters hit back again as a Karim Benzema hat-trick completed yet another famous comeback, but they were not done.
In the same campaign, they found themselves 5-3 down to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City with just seconds to go.
Enter Rodrygo who scored a famous quickfire brace to force extra time before going on to secure a 6-5 victory to take them through to the final where they defeated Liverpool in Paris.
Ancelotti’s men will be looking ahead to what could be yet another magical Madrid night.
