This season has been a bit of a whirlwind for Tottenham.

The North London club have struggled in the Premier League as Ange Postecoglou’s team currently sit 14th in the standings with just 11 wins from 31 games.

Having also been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions, the Australian coach is hanging his hat on the UEFA Europa League, as failure to win the competition could result in Postecoglou losing his Tottenham job, despite the injury issues suffered at Spurs this season.

Many of his players have underperformed this season, however, one ‘frightening’ talent has not let the Australian coach down.

Glenn Hoddle stunned by Lucas Bergvall’s progress

Lucas Bergvall arrived at Tottenham last February as part of a £8.5m deal from Swedish side Djurgarden before joining up with his Spurs teammates during the summer.

Bergvall impressed at Tottenham from the word go and has been a key player for the North London club this season, featuring 41 times, producing one goal and four assists.

The Swedish star impressed again in Tottenham’s Europa League quarter-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night, leaving Glenn Hoddle stunned after the 1-1 draw.

“He’s got a little bit of everything,” the Spurs legend said on TNT Sport about Bergvall. “For me, the most important thing, he’s been thrown into games, but mentality-wise wise he’s coped with it.

“More than coped with it! He’s just going to grow and grow. He’s learnt so quickly. Some people take two seasons to grow and progress.

“He’s improved in such a quick space of time. What he’s going to be like when he’s 23, 24 is going to be frightening.”

Hoddle wasn’t the only pundit to praise Bergvall as Owen Hargreaves suggested that the midfielder is the only Tottenham star to not let his team down this season.

Lucas Bergvall has not let Tottenham down

Tottenham plan to offer Bergvall a new contract and his performance against Frankfurt suggests why the North London club are keen to do so.

The 19-year-old impressed in the middle of the park, hitting the woodwork with a beautiful strike. In addition to this, the midfielder completed 39/41 of his passes (95%), completed 4/4 long balls, made four passes into the final third, while also completing six recoveries and two interceptions.

Speaking on TNT Sports after Tottenham vs Eintracht Frankfurt, Hargreaves suggested that Bergvall was the one Spurs player not to let his team down this season having not had a blip.

“He hasn’t even had a blip. Most of the [Tottenham] players this season have had a blip,” Hargreaves stated. “I think he’s got a bit of grit, which is important when it is tough, and a touch of class as well. He’s an elegant player. I think this season will give him so much confidence.

“He’ll feel established and that’s such a powerful thing for a young player when you settle into a team and become an integral part of it.”

Bergvall could be even better for Tottenham next season and that is a very positive thing for Spurs fans as the youngster is a player the North London club can build their future around.
