Arsenal fans are all making the same point about Aaron Ramsdale after Southampton’s loss to Aston Villa

Aaron Ramsdale hasn’t had the best of times since swapping Arsenal for Southampton last summer.

Ramsdale was a solid signing for Arsenal, helping transform the Gunners into a Premier League title challenger.

However, when it comes to goalkeepers, there’s not much leeway in terms of game time when the head coach has someone else in mind for the role.

Just as Ramsdale came in and took Bernd Leno’s first-choice spot, David Raya was then brought in and he became Mikel Arteta’s No. 1 in between the sticks.

Ramsdale spent a season as Arsenal’s second-choice keeper and, understandably, he moved on in search of first-team football, joining newly-promoted Southampton last summer.

Now, in wake of the Saints’ latest defeat, Arsenal fans had plenty to say about their former goalkeeper.

Arsenal fans say Aaron Ramsdale does not deserve to be at a team as bad as Southampton

Southampton have been absolutely dismal this season and risk taking Derby County’s record as the worst Premier League team of all time.

The Derby class of 2007/08 finished the season with 11 points, while Southampton are still on 10 points with six games left to play.

The Saints’ latest defeat came on Saturday as Aston Villa won 3-0 at Southampton – despite Ramsdale saving two penalties.

“Ramsdale doesn’t deserve this,” one Arsenal fan wrote on X. “Saved two penalties today and still lost by three.

“Man could’ve stayed at Arsenal as the No. 2 and fought for his spot. Now he’s staring down his third relegation. Pain.”

Another Arsenal supporter wrote: “Ramsdale deserves so much better.”

The comments on Ramsdale’s current situation kept coming, with one Arsenal fan saying: “Ramsdale is an unlucky person. He doesn’t deserve the bad luck. He’s an above average keeper.”

Another supporter said: “This was Aaron Ramsdale’s performance today. 2 penalties saved. 7+ saves. 3 goals conceded (mainly cause of bad defending).

“Don’t know why Arsenal sold this good GK. Whatsoever, Aaron Ramsdale’s talent is being wasted at Southampton. He has the potential to win the Yashin trophy.”

Another wrote: “Ramsdale is gold in the midst of trash with the Southampton side.

“I wonder who advised to join them. At least he tried to keep them but their shambolic team kept messing up.”

How Aaron Ramsdale performed against Aston Villa

Ramsdale kept out a Marco Asensio spot kick midway through the second half, but moments later, Ollie Watkins scored the opener.

Donyell Malen then netted in the 79th minute, and things were only to get worse for Ramsdale.

He saved a second penalty from Asensio in injury time, but the Saints defence was caught napping as John McGinn tapped home the rebound.

Saves 7
Punches 2
Runs out (succ.) 1 (1)
Saves from inside box 4
Penalties saved 2

Ramsdale made seven saves in total, including four from inside the box, and also punched the ball out twice.

For a keeper to deliver such a good performance and still lose 3-0 shows that he’s far too good for his current team.

There’s virtually no chance Ramsdale stays put in the Championship next season. At the very least he should go on to join an established mid-table club.
