Jose Mourinho makes true feelings on Arsenal known while praising ‘fantastic’ Chelsea team

5 Min Read

Jose Mourinho is undoubtedly a Premier League legend.

The Portuguese coach captured the attention of the English football fans from day one with his ‘special one’ press conference and it is fair to say that he backed that up during his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea would win the 2004/05 Premier League title, winning 29 out of their 38 games, losing just one. That Blues team also set the incredible record of conceding the fewest goals in a season, as Mourinho’s men let only 15 into their net.

This set Mourinho on the path of becoming a Premier League great and that 04/05 Chelsea team is considered one of the greatest to have played in English football.

The Portuguese coach has now been discussing this squad of players and whilst doing so, he has made his feelings on one Arsenal team very clear.

Jose Mourinho doesn’t care about Arsenal’s Invincibles

Mourinho is currently the coach of Fenerbahce, but the former Chelsea boss has been reminiscing about his 04/05 Blues team as it has been 20 years since they achieved their remarkable feat.

The Portuguese coach is aware that the 04/05 Chelsea team is one of the greatest to have played in the Premier League and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Arsenal’s invincible squad of 2003/04 and the many great teams seen throughout the years at Man United.

Games Wins Draws Losses Points
Chelsea 04/05 38 29 8 1 95
Arsenal 03/04 38 26 12 0 90
Man United 98/99 38 22 13 3 79
Man City 17/18 38 32 4 2 100

Speaking to the Telegraph, Mourinho made his true feelings on Arsenal, Man United and Man City clear, stating: “Arsenal people, Man United people, Man City people, they don’t give a s— about Chelsea 2004-05.

“In the same way as us, Chelsea, we don’t give a s— about the Invincibles or what they did. What matters is what we know. What we know what we did and what we share between us.”

Mourinho had a big job on his hands when taking over at Chelsea in 2004 and the Portuguese coach has now shared how he turned the Blues into the beast they became.

What Jose Mourinho did to change Chelsea

The year before Mourinho joined Chelsea, the London club finished second in the Premier League behind Arsenal, but would end the season trophyless.

The base of a good team was already at Stamford Bridge; however, Mourinho believes the tactics he brought with him to England took that Chelsea team to a new level.

“I knew that our way of training would make an impact on the team,” the Portuguese coach told the Telegraph. “I knew that was something new for the players. I knew they would be highly motivated. I knew that I was, at that time, I was what I am today.

“Today many coaches are very tactical, but in that period not many coaches were very tactical. Everything for us in that pre-season was a model of play, principles, everything was very clear. The way I tried to build the team was clearly this player for this role, this player for this job.”

The legendary figure would go on to say: “Of course, we bought fantastic players. But the fantastic players were already there – Lampard, Joe Cole, Terry, William Gallas. Eidur Gudjohnsen.

“These guys, they were already there, but we needed a different culture. And I think the different culture started immediately on day one.”

The 04/05 Chelsea team will never be considered by football fans as the best to ever play in the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean they should not be recognised.

The London club did some incredible things during that season and it could have been the best in their history had they gone on to win the Champions League, in addition to their domestic achievements.
