Mohamed Salah signing a new contract at Liverpool means, assuming he remains at Anfield for the entirety of the deal, he will have spent a decade on Merseyside.
Given his level of success in the first eight years, Salah is rightly now in the conversation for Liverpool’s all-time greatest player along with the likes of Sir Kenny Daglish and Steven Gerrard. More than that, the additional two years should help solidify his status as a Premier League legend.
For a start, he could climb a few places up the all-time scoring charts. Currently on 184 goals, Salah sits joint fifth with Sergio Aguero and three behind fourth-place Andy Cole. There’s every chance Salah could catch Wayne Rooney (208) and Harry Kane (213) in the next two and a bit years, although Alan Shearer’s all-time tally of 260 still looks daunting.
Salah is also 10th in the list of all-time assists with 86. Given he has managed 17 so far in the league this season, there’s every chance he’ll reach triple figures in that particular stat, something only achieved by five players – Ryan Giggs, Kevin De Bruyne, Cesc Fabregas, Rooney and Frank Lampard.
The 32-year-old has won the Playmaker award for the most assists in a season once before (2021/22) and given he is seven clear of any other player this term, is bound to win a second prize. The Liverpool winger is set to become just the second player to win the accolade multiple times – along with De Bruyne – although it was only introduced in 2017/18. Four more assists this season would take Salah past the record of 20 set jointly by Thierry Henry and De Bruyne in a single campaign.
As for Golden Boots, Salah has earned three in the past and is closing in on a fourth, which would see him draw level with Henry for the most in Premier League history.
As for where he ranks among Liverpool’s all-time great forwards, no-one who has played over 10,000 minutes for the Reds has managed a better goals-per-game ratio than the Egyptian, who has scored once every 132 minutes for the club.

In terms of the most goal involvements, Salah’s 44 from the current season is the highest number in a Premier League campaign. He needs three more to equal the records of Shearer and Cole in 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively, both of which came in 42-game seasons.
Shearer also holds the outright record of 324 goal involvements in the Premier League, a tally Salah will certainly feel he can catch given he is on 270 at present.
Another area where Salah could establish himself as a Premier League record-holder is Player of the Month awards. He is currently tied first with Aguero and Kane after seven previous triumphs, two of which have come this season.
However, it wasn’t individual honors Liverpool’s no.11 mentioned when he penned a new deal, but continued team success. Barring a late catastrophe, Salah is on the verge of lifting a second Premier League title and will hope for more in the following two years.
The lack of titles may be held against Salah but, based on his individual numbers, it’s hard to argue that he shouldn’t be in the conversation for the division’s all-time greatest.
