‘I’m not very happy’: Mathys Tel shares why he’s so annoyed after Tottenham lose to Wolves

4 Min Read

Ange Postecoglou arguably watched his Tottenham Hotspur side sink to a new low in their 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham looked like a team bereft of confidence, and their mistake ridden performance was undoubtedly inspired by Guglielmo Vicario’s display between the sticks.

Vicario was at fault more than once in the first half and his decision-making was only helping Wolves’ fans get behind their team at Molineux.

And even when the likes of Mathys Tel were unwittingly able to grab a goal back for Postecoglou’s side, the goal-surrending errors didn’t stop.

Tottenham fans are probably quite used to their side surrendering Premier League points with relative ease at this point, but their performance on Sunday was particularly worrying with Thursday’s trip to Germany in mind.

Mathys Tel comments on Tottenham ‘mistakes’ against Wolves

That being said, Tel explained why he was still ‘not very happy’ at full-time despite scoring his second league goal for Spurs.

The Frenchman will soon head back to Germany to face Eintracht Frankfurt with Spurs, but he’ll certainly be calling for more from his teammates after alluding to a series of mistakes.

Speaking to Spurs Play, Tel said: “It’s completely difficult and we know that, but we can’t give up. We have to learn from this situation and just go again and show who we are.

“We have to concentrate from the first minute until the last minute. Yes, today was unlucky for us I think, we showed some good things but we did a lot of mistakes today and that’s why we lost.

“I’m very happy to score my second goal in the Premier League but I’m a person who has to look at my team, always about my team.

“Yes I scored but we lost and I’m not very happy…but we have a good game, a big game next week and we have to be ready for this game and just go again and don’t give up.”

How can Ange Postecoglou fix Spurs for Eintracht Frankfurt?

Of course, Spurs will face a much more difficult test away in Frankfurt in the days to come – a side who will be confident of seeing through the tie at home.

Tottenham fans were shocked by Vicario’s performance at Wolves, and perhaps there is a question of whether to turn to Antonin Kinsky in a few day’s time.

Postecoglou has some serious decisions to make, a manager who looks increasingly resigned and dejected on the sidelines.

Previously it was stated that Postecoglou would keep his job if Tottenham won the Europa League this season.

But after another domestic defeat it might now be possible that Daniel Levy is even rethinking that position.
