Roy Keane shares honest verdict on ‘special’ Mohamed Salah with bold Arsenal title claim

Roy Keane believes Arsenal could have won the Premier League title if the Gunners had Mohamed Salah in its side rather than Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s side finds itself currently 11 points behind Liverpool after Arsenal dropped more points in the Premier League title race on Saturday, drawing 1-1 with Brentford. This result marks another setback for the Gunners, who have now slipped up five times in their last seven matches. The result now leaves Liverpool just three wins away from clinching the Premier League title with seven games to go.

Arsenal’s stuttering league form has sparked debate over what’s gone wrong, with injuries—especially in attack—playing a significant role in their dip. Many have pointed to the club’s lack of attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window as a major misstep that has shaped the course of their season.

Speaking before Liverpool’s game against West Ham, Keane spoke on how effective Salah has been for the Reds this season, stating if he was an Arsenal player the Gunners would win the league. “Particularly the star players, and no doubt he’s a good pro as well in the background, which helps as a great example with all the young players” said the former Manchester United midfielder.

“We see him doing it week in, week out scoring the goals, the assists. The difference would be, if you put him in the Arsenal team, Arsenal would win the league this year. That’s how special he is.

“So I’m kind of glad they got the deal done, because you want the top players playing in the Premier League it was only a matter of time, they got the deal done.”

After months of speculation, Salah has officially signed a new deal to extend his stay at Liverpool for another two years. The contract, reportedly worth $460,000 per week, keeps him among the Premier League’s highest earners. In securing the agreement, Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, made a rare exception to their usual policy of avoiding long-term deals for players over 30. The extension means Salah’s time at Anfield, already spanning eight years, is now set to reach a full decade.

On Salah’s contract renewal, the Sky Sports pundit added: “I think he deserves it. He’s a special player, and no doubt a good pro. I suppose making changes at the club, having kind of targets regarding not giving contracts to certain players.

“But you know, every player can be different. We’ve seen him get interviewed many times and he’s a proper pro, he’s a fitness freak and he’s doing the business and that’s why they had to give him the deal. They couldn’t just let him walk out the door on a free.”
