Life did not get much better for Tottenham fans nor Ange Postecoglou at Molineux on Sunday.
Spurs found themselves 1-0 down within just two minutes after a strike by Rayan Ait-Nouri, a reported target for Tottenham, following a poor punch by Guglielmo Vicario.
The Italian was again at the heart of the action as Wolves made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute, flapping at the ball inside the box in panicked fashion before punching it straight at Djed Spence, who was left helpless as the ball trickled into the net after hitting him.
There was one tiny bright spark in the opening 45 minutes as Mathys Tel showed glimpses of quality on the left flank – where Ange Postecoglou has rarely used the Frenchman – even scoring in the second half, and Spurs fans believe the Bayern Munich loanee should have featured in that area a lot more.
Tottenham fans bemoan Ange Postecoglou’s use of Mathys Tel
Since signing the France U21 international in February, Postecoglou has only given him four chances to impress on the left, with seven of his 11 appearances coming as a centre-forward.
Tel has scored two goals in these four outings on the left – compared to just one goal in eight as a striker, which was a penalty – and Spurs fans believe the man from Australia has been using the Spurs No.11 all wrong.
One supporter said it feels “absolutely insane” that we haven’t seen the 19-year-old on the left more often, a damning assessment of Postecoglou’s management.
Absolutely insane we haven’t played Tel on the left more tbh

A second Spurs supporter added that Tel has looked like a “square peg in a round hole” since arriving from Bayern Munich and being deployed centrally, adding that it is such a “typical Tottenham thing” to see.
Signed a left winger to play him upfront 🤣 typical Tottenham thing to do, square peg in a round hole

Elsewhere, another Tottenham fan suggested Postecoglou is too stubborn to act on the display by Tel at Molineux, and will still deploy Heung-min Son on the left against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, despite the South Korean proving to be very ineffective in that position this season.
The Spurs No.7 has scored eight goals in 34 appearances on the left so far this term.
Ange will see this and still play #7 on Thursday

Another Spurs fan said they have been waiting “weeks” to see Tel start on the left alongside Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert – sadly, while they got their wish to see the Bayern Munich loanee out wide with the England international in the middle, the latter of the trio is still absent with a hamstring injury.
Been waiting for a Tel/Solanke/Odebert front line for weeks.

Furthermore, a fifth Tottenham fan said Tel looked “so athletic and bright” on the left in comparison to the captain, brutally calling the South Korea international “decrepit” – TBR Football understand Spurs have dropped contract talks with Son in fear of his declining performance level.
So athletic and bright aka the direct opposite of decrepit Son

Last but not least, a sixth Tottenham fan said there is definitely a “very good player” in Tel when he’s on the left flank, adding that he would “flourish” under a coach like Mauricio Pochettino.
There’s definitely a very good player in there, under a Poch type team he’d flourish.

What Tottenham are thinking in regards to signing Mathys Tel permanently
Tottenham have an option to buy the teenager for £45m at the end of the season, but with so much uncertainty at Hotspur Way – including the future of Postecoglou – some might have doubts about a permanent deal happening.
While there are concerns about the fee, Fabrizio Romano believes Tottenham do see Tel as part of the project going forwards, and would happily sign him – although it feels as if Spurs will only act if Bayern Munich agree to lower the £45m sum.
