Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo is the latest player linked with a move to the Saudi Pro league, with reports that Al-Nassr are prepared to pay over ₤100 million to sign him.
The Ecuadorean international is nearing the end of his second season at Stamford Bridge after moving from Brighton in the summer of 2023 for a fee in excess of ₤100 million, a record transfer fee for a move involving two English clubs.
Al-Nassr, who are the same club that Cristiano Ronaldo plays for, want to add to their defensive midfield options and believe that Caicedo, who has captained Chelsea a number of times this season, is one of the best options available.
Whilst Chelsea would not want to lose such an important player, there are aspects of any deal that might be attractive from a financial position. Caicedo is on an eight year deal, and they have been able to amortise that cost over the length of his contract.
However, if they are now able to sell him for the same amount that they originally bought him for, then they could then show a big profit in the book, a legitimate transaction for a club that has sometimes been accused of playing fast and loose with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.
