Arne Slot says what surprised him about Liverpool from day one immediately after winning the Premier League

3 Min Read

Arne Slot has officially masterminded Liverpool to becoming Premier League champions as they accomplished the feat in style by dismantling Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield.

In doing so, the former Feyenoord boss became the first Dutch manager in Premier League history to lift the title.

When Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, perhaps many would have expected the ongoing season to be one where the Reds adapted into a new era and had their fair share of hiccups.

Jamie Carragher even doubted Slot when his appointment was made official.

But Arne Slot has well and truly silenced all his doubters as he is officially a Premier League-winning manager with Liverpool.

Arne Slot says Liverpool’s “winning mentality” stunned him from day one

Speaking to NBC Sports after Liverpool demolished Tottenham to win the Premier League, Arne Slot initially admitted that due to inheriting a world-class side, he did not have many changes to make: “I think I’ve said it many times, there was not so much to improve, I think every manager for now, even for next season, we have to improve as well. But I think, we could keep most of the things the same and I think, the second year, when the team plays together, it’s always better than the first year.”

“And we started off really well and that always helps. Mo [Mohamed Salah] had of course, a great, great season with scoring so many goals. So, yeah, we might have adjusted one or two things but that probably, Jurgen [Klopp] would have done as well if he would have stayed.”

However, Arne Slot admitted that was struck him by surprise the minute he started managing Liverpool was their winning mentality and the culture at the club.

“We inherited a great, quality team but the culture of the team, I expected it but it was a positive and a pleasant surprise to inherit a team with such a winning mentality.”

Arne Slot says why this Reds Premier League title is extra “special”

Arne Slot claimed that due to Jurgen Klopp’s departure and big names from the past having left Liverpool, their latest title triumph feels all the more special.

Slot said via BBC Sport: “It’s incredible. Winning the Premier League and having the impact I’ve had is incredible. For me, this [title] feels more special.”

“Jurgen is not here and other players I respect a lot are not here, but to do it with a new manager and a new team shows what I’m capable of.”
