Mia San Meisterinnen!
The Bayern Munich Frauen are the winners of Frauen-Bundesliga for the sixth time in club history! With a 3-1 win over Freiburg, they clinch the title — and a three-peat — with two matchdays to spare. The players celebrated on the pitch with the traditional giant glasses of Weissbier — both drinking and throwing it on each other.
As for the match itself, Bayern broke the deadlock with a goal in the 21st minute. Pernille Harder blasted a ball into the box and Lea Schüller was able to redirect it past the keeper for a goal. The celebrations did not last long. Just eight minutes later, Freiburg leveled the match with a great goal from Fölmili.
The title celebrations really got going in the 67th minute when Harder scored the second Bayern goal. Klara Bühl sent a nice ball from a corner to the back post that found Harder unmarked to easily tap it in. In the 79th minute, Bayern’s captain Glodis Viggosdottir — who just subbed on minutes before — scored after another corner after the ball pinged around in the box a couple times. The chant of “Deutcher Fussballmeister FCB” rang out proudly through the Bayern campus.
Bayern will look to complete the double on Thursday when they face Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal der Frauen in Cologne.
