‘Frustrated’ Mohamed Salah showed his true colors in locker room and wanting Arsenal win

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah admitted that he was “frustrated” to have spurned a chance to score early on in the first half against Tottenham Hotspur – en route to clinching the Premier League title.

The Egyptian King put in yet another talismanic performance against Spurs on the day that the Reds won the championship in front of fans for a first time since 1990. Ending that long 35-year wait, Arne Slot’s men secured the English top flight crown in style, dispatching of the visitors in a 5-1 demolition job.

However, it appears that the forward – who is third in Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring standings – was left irked by his performance in the opening 45 minutes. The hosts fell behind as ex-Reds forward Dominic Solanke stunned Anfield by putting Spurs ahead in the 12th minute of proceedings.

Before that, Liverpool talisman Salah spurned his first opening of the game, sailing a left-footed curling effort over the bar after cutting inside onto his favored side. The attacker quickly dusted himself down, though, as he provided the assist for his team’s equalizer through Luis Diaz in the 16th minute.

The 32-year-old winger eventually got himself on the scoresheet too, notching the Reds’ fourth strike of the day with a memorable goal at the Kop end. Putting the result and the title beyond doubt, he then proceeded to celebrate with supporters – even taking a selfie on one fan’s phone.

Despite leading his team in a Man of the Match display, the forward admitted at full-time that he was left ruing his wayward finishing during the first-half. After extending his tally to 28 goals for the season in the league, he told Sky Sports: “At half-time I was a little bit frustrated as I had the chance in the first half. I wanted to win it at Anfield.”

Aside from this individual frustration, there was no doubting the club legend’s glee after he won what is only a second top flight title in the space of 35 years. Admitting that he had long desired the chance to celebrate a championship triumph in front of supporters at Anfield, he confessed that he was glad nearest challengers Arsenal avoided defeat in midweek.

He said: “We met last week when Crystal Palace played Arsenal and I didn’t want it to finish there, I wanted to wait to Anfield for something special, an experience no-one has before. To be able to score in that game and get a good result… incredible.

“Incredible. To win the Premier League here with the fans is something special. You saw that here today and every game. It’s an incredible feeling.”

As for whether this title means more to him after the circumstances surrounding the last Premier League title success in 2020, he acknowledged: “This is way better, 100 percent. Without Sadio, without Jurgen, without Bobby and everybody. It’s more special with the fans. You have a different group now, a different manager and it shows that you are able to do it again. That’s something special.”
