The Bayer Leverkusen man is leaving on a free transfer. Where next?
Bayern Munich could have a chance again with Jonathan Tah after all.
The German men’s national team defender is leaving Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer at the end of the year, which naturally has FC Barcelona interested…but the Catalans have not been able to get the deal over the line, because — and please take a big swig of your nearest beverage before reading this — of the club’s ongoing financial issues.
Here is the situation as reported by Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg:
Jonathan #Tah has had a verbal agreement with FC Barcelona for several weeks. However, nothing has been signed yet, as the transfer cannot be completed at this stage.
If the move to Barca falls through, major opportunities could arise. Real Madrid (in the event Xabi Alonso arrives this summer) and FC Bayern are keeping a close eye on him. Bayern have internally revisited the situation in recent days and Real like him a lot.
Also worth noting: Alonso and Tah share a strong relationship.

Barça has Hansi Flick while Real Madrid could land Xabi Alonso. And Bayern remain the German record champions. It looks like the 29-year-old will have his pick of next destinations.
Maybe Lothar Matthäus gets his wish.
