Arsenal and Manchester United are likely to be busy in the transfer market this summer in hope of better campaigns next time out.

Arsenal will be eager to challenge on multiple fronts and get their hands on the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have endured a difficult season domestically and will hope to do much better next year.

Both teams have been linked with a young midfielder who has been making waves in the Premier League.

Indeed, Old Trafford legend Wayne Rooney has now described the 21-year-old as “outstanding” and “the best player” in his last game.

Wayne Rooney says Arsenal and Manchester United target Adam Wharton is ‘outstanding’

The player in question is Adam Wharton, who helped Crystal Palace reach the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Arsenal are admirers of Wharton, and Man United are reportedly considering signing Wharton to help push Bruno Fernandes further up the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with Wharton, and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is said to be a fan of Wharton.

The England international delivered another wonderful performance to help Oliver Glasner’s side run out 3-0 winners over Aston Villa.

Rooney couldn’t sing Wharton’s praises highly enough after the game.

“Attacking players get a lot of the credit, but Adam Wharton was outstanding,” Rooney told BBC One.

“His commitment and winning the ball back – I thought he was the best player on the pitch.”

Oliver Glasner also spoke highly of Wharton after the match.

“The first goal was about winning the ball and second goal was unbelievable counter-press from Adam Wharton,” said the Palace boss.

How much Adam Wharton could cost Arsenal or Manchester United

Palace struck gold when they signed Wharton from Blackburn Rovers for just £22million in February 2024.

He has been earning plenty of plaudits – Marc Guehi recently described Wharton as a ‘really top player’.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand recently said he’d like to see Wharton at Manchester United.

And Alan Shearer said Wharton is ‘really exciting’ and ‘makes your job easier as a forward’.

The question is – how much could Wharton cost Arsenal, Man United or any other suitors?

According to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, Palace have made it clear to Wharton’s suitors that they see him as a £100million player.

The current British record is the £105million deal that Arsenal struck with West Ham for Declan Rice.

TBR Football are told that Palace firmly see Wharton in that bracket and anyone wanting to sign him would need to be prepared to break the bank.
