Liverpool players were full of emotions after confirming their status as Premier League champions with a dominant win over Tottenham Hotspur with celebrations beginning.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and an own goal confirmed a 5-1 win, meaning that Arne Slot’s men will be crowned champions at the end of the season with Arsenal not being able to catch them.

Slot was seen arm-in-arm with his fellow coaches on the sideline in the dying seconds, as fans sang the chant that Jurgen Klopp made for him, before running on to the field to celebrate with his team. Alisson Becker was in tears with Wataru Endo and Andy Robertson before Virgil van Dijk came over to celebrate with them.

The Liverpool skipper signed a two-year extension to remain at the club after this season, and looked as emotional as he’s ever been when realizing what the club had just accomplished.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Van Dijk said: “This is the most beautiful club in the world. We deserve this. We are going to enjoy the next couple of weeks and take it in.

“I was desperate to win it for them [the fans] and all the fans around the world, and for us as well. We have won two Premier League trophies in five years.”

Players remained on the field for the next 30 minutes to celebrate winning the league, with them having to wait to lift the trophy, not being able to do so until after the final game of the season. They face Crystal Palace at home on that day, which will come exactly one month from today.

Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp last summer has gone on to win the league in his first season in charge, with fans being able to celebrate with the team after not being able to do so in 2020 amid the Covid-19 lockdown.

As well as winning the league, Slot and Liverpool’s backroom staff were able to see Van Dijk and Salah renew their contracts, signing two-year deals to remain with the team as they look to go at it again next year.

The Reds look set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, as well as a few attackers potentially leaving including Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa, in what could be a busy summer for the the team after spending very little last year.
