Manchester United are leading the race to sign Matheus Cunha after Arsenal cooled their interest in the Wolves attacker.
The Brazilian has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season. He has played a part in helping Wolves avoid relegation.
That has made Cunha a wanted man, and several clubs have been linked with a move to sign him over the last few months.
Arsenal targeted Cunha in the winter window, but no move materialised then. Now, the Gunners’ interest has cooled for one reason.
Why Arsenal have ‘gone cold’ with their interest in Matheus Cunha
Cunha has all the attributes to play for a top club.
The Wolves star is versatile, fantastic on the ball and has proven that he can score goals and provide assists regularly in the Premier League.
That is why Cunha has been linked with a move to several big clubs, but some of his actions look set to cost him in the summer.
TBR Football exclusively revealed that Cunha’s behaviour ‘on and off the pitch’ has been viewed as ‘red flags’ by the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
Now, Alex Crook has claimed that Arsenal have done further ‘reference checks’ on Cunha’s character, and they have realised that he is not the type of player Mikel Arteta wants in his side.
The journalist said on talkSPORT: “That’s why they [Arsenal] have gone cold on the idea of signing Matheus Cunha.
“Because they have done reference checks on his character and realised that he is actually not the type of player that Arteta wants to work with.”
Manchester United closing in on Matheus Cunha
Cunha has emerged as a key target for Manchester United.
TBR Football confirmed that interest recently and revealed that Ruben Amorim’s side won’t have to pay Cunha’s release clause up front – they can do it in instalments.
That will help the Red Devils with PSR, and Fabrizio Romano has claimed that they are in ‘advanced’ talks to get the deal done.
Cunha’s character may be a concern to some, but what nobody can deny is the fact that he is a terrific player who will definitely improve Manchester United.
The Red Devils have had a shocking season, but if they win the Europa League and then complete the signing of Cunha from Wolves, everyone will forget what has happened over the last eight months.
That is exactly what Amorim will be wishing for right now.
