Andy Robertson apologizes after forgetting about ex-Man Utd star in Liverpool title celebrations

Andy Robertson found himself in a tricky situation when he was confronted with a surprising statistic live on air, leading him to apologize to a Manchester United legend.

The Scotland captain was visibly elated during his Sky Sports interview after clinching his second Premier League title with Liverpool, with four games still left to play.

Arne Slot’s squad knew they only needed a single point against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham to secure the title, but bounced back from an early setback to score five goals, sending Anfield into a frenzy.

The atmosphere was electric as fans celebrated this victory alongside their heroes. Robertson was part of the team that won the title under Jurgen Klopp in 2020, but due to the Covid-19 lockdown, matches were played without spectators.

Fast forward five years, and it was time for the Liverpool players, staff, and fans to revel in their success. After the match, Robertson was presented with a statistic that caught him off guard. Given the past achievements of Scottish players at Liverpool, he admitted feeling some pressure when he first joined the club.

On the pitch at Anfield, Sky Sports presenter David Jones posed a question to Robertson: “Andy, I have been sitting on this statistic all day. You are the third multiple-Premier League title-winning Scotsman – do you know who the other two are?”.

Robertson responded: ‘Darren Fletcher, I am guessing. I couldn’t tell you [the other]. When he is told it was Brian McClair, he responded: “Sorry Brian.. For me when I came to this club I know it feel a long time ago now. I’ve been here a long time now.

“When I came here you quickly realise how good Scottish players have been at this club. We are standing looking at Kenny’s [Dalglish] stand. How many legends there are from Scotland.

“There is a little bit of pressure with that but I kind of just took that on board. “Pointing out a unique record, he noted with pride, “Also, I don’t think Liverpool have ever won a trophy without a Scottish player in it. So I am glad I managed to continue that.

“I won’t be anywhere near Kenny but I am glad I have won a few trophies here and I am just delighted I can just kind of carry that forward.”
