Exclusive: How Man United really feel about signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer

4 Min Read

Manchester United are still interested in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, but TBR Football can reveal that there are some concerns about a deal at Old Trafford.

Man United have been scouting Osimhen for some time now, a striker who’s spending the season on loan at Galatasaray in Turkey.

Osimhen is under contract at Napoli until 2026, a club he will return to once his loan ends in a couple of months’ time.

As it stands, Osimhen has a release clause of just over £60m at Napoli — a price tag that the Italian side would like to be met.

However, few clubs in Europe would be willing to pay that figure in one lump sum and it’s understood that Napoli are unlikely to demand full payment.

Man United are still keen to sign Victor Osimhen

That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that United are concerned about such a significant lay-out on one player this summer, like a deal for Osimhen would demand.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team are keen to learn from the club’s recent failures in the transfer market in that respect.

However, United remain interested in Osimhen and the 26-year-old is still very much on their radar as one of their options to come in as a new striker.

Although, with that in mind, TBR understands that if Napoli’s demands are seen as excessive this summer then Osimhen would be willing to play out his contract and leave the club for free in 2026.

Napoli want Osimhen to leave this summer and realise that a deal is likely needed to be brokered.

Indeed, the striker’s camp have reminded Napoli that he could leave for free in just over a year and the Serie A giants are nervous about that prospect.

Rasmus Hojlund is still on Napoli’s radar

Of course, it’s worth mentioning that Napoli still have ‘firm interest’ in Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund could leave United this summer and Napoli have not ruled out the possibility of a deal being done that could see players come the other way.

United are pushing to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers right now — a forward who has been brilliant in the Premier League this season.

However, Cunha is seen as an attacking midfielder for Amorim’s system and he will be signed with another striker.

United are interested in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town too, a striker whose relegation release clause is now active.

Victor Osimhen’s wage demands

In terms of Osimhen’s wages, TBR have been told by sources close to the striker that he is not demanding over £400k-a-week to come to the Premier League.

Osimhen is the Serie A’s highest paid player, although he is currently on loan in Turkey as mentioned.

But whilst the Nigeria international would want a good wage from any prospective new club, his camp are insistent that their demands are not excessive.

It’s understood that Osimhen is keen on a move to England, although there remains interest from elsewhere in Europe.

And as has been the case for some time — the Saudi Pro League are pushing hard to sign the striker.
