Exclusive: Liverpool ready to give new contract to star who Virgil van Dijk called ‘flawless’

Liverpool are ready to reward Ryan Gravenberch with a new contract after his outstanding campaign, TBR Football can exclusively reveal.

Gravenberch has made 46 appearances in all competitions under Arne Slot at Liverpool this season, a 22-year-old who’s really stepped up under his compatriot.

Before the season began, Liverpool were trying to sign Martin Zubimendi for their number six role — efforts that were ultimately in vain.

However, that transfer frustration somewhat led to Slot putting his faith in Gravenberch in a deep midfield role, and he’s been integral ever since.

The Netherlands international has started every Premier League game for Liverpool this season to date, and he’s even managed to provide four assists in the process.

Liverpool ready to start Ryan Gravenberch contract talks

That considered, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Liverpool have indicated to Gravenberch’s camp that a new contract offer will be forthcoming.

Talks are yet to take place but Liverpool are willing to hand Gravenberch improved terms even though he still has three years left on his deal.

TBR recently shared that Conor Bradley was close to a new Liverpool contract and new deals are also incoming for Curtis Jones and Ibrahima Konate,

Konate himself is out of contract next summer and progress with his situation will be very welcome from a Liverpool fan point of view.

And fortunately, new terms for Gravenberch may well not be too far behind.

Gravenberch’s agent spoke about joining Real Madrid recently, but sources have confirmed that the player is ‘loving life’ at Anfield and is fully committed to Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk has noticed Ryan Gravenberch’s improvement

Speaking in an interview with Liverpool’s website back in January, Virgil van Dijk lauded the improvement that his compatriot had shown at Liverpool this season.

The Liverpool captain was keen to say that hard work had inspired Gravenberch’s ‘flawless’ season — a good example to everyone connected to the club.

Van Dijk said: “Last year he didn’t play as much but we all saw his quality and it was key to keep his head down and work his socks off.

“This year he has got the trust and the confidence. He can show his quality week in, week out and every few days. I am very impressed with him. Not only on the pitch but outside the pitch as well.

“He is still a young boy but he is growing into a man. The way you approach the game on and off the pitch is very key to be a world-class player.

“The consistency he is showing, he is a world-class player and he can only get better as well. He learns from difficult moments in games. He has been almost flawless this season. I am proud of him. He is vital for us.”
