Manchester United are reportedly expected to reach an agreement to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha in the near future.
The Red Devils are keen to bolster their forward options after seeing Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund struggle to produce their best form during the 2024-25 campaign.
Zirkzee has mustered seven goals in 48 competitive matches this term, while Hojlund has only scored nine goals in 46 appearances across all competitions.
With Man United on the lookout for attacking reinforcements, it was recently reported that the club were in pole position to sign Cunha this summer.
Speaking after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City, Cunha insisted he is “happy” at Molineux despite being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Man United pushing to complete Cunha deal
However, those comments have done little to dampen the transfer speculation surrounding his future with Vitor Pereira‘s side.
In the latest update from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United are pushing to reach an agreement ‘very soon’ over a move for Cunha.
The update suggests that talks are currently taking place with the player’s representatives over the final contract details.
The 25-year-old is believed to be ‘keen’ to join Ruben Amorim‘s side in a move that would end his two-year stint as a Wolves player.
Where would Cunha play at Man United?
Cunha has showcased his eye for goal during the current campaign, having racked up 15 goals in 29 Premier League appearances.
However, Man United are unlikely to view Cunha as the sole solution to their striker problem, with the Red Devils expected to pursue a natural number nine in addition to the Wolves man.
In fact, Cunha has tended to play as an attacking midfielder this season, and he would be suited to playing one of the number 10 roles in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.
With that said, Brazilian would still offer Amorim the option to play him as the centre-forward when called upon, giving Man United useful versatility in the final third.
Cunha will have the chance to endear himself to Man United supporters being even joining the club when he features in Wolves’ away meeting with Manchester City on Friday.
