Three Liverpool players at risk of missing out on Premier League medal as requirements revealed

Three Liverpool players are at risk of missing out on a Premier League winners’ medal after the club were crowned champions on Sunday.

After Arsenal drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace in midweek, Liverpool had the chance to win the league with four games to spare at home to Spurs.

Despite going a goal down to a header from former player Dominic Solanke, the Reds thrashed Spurs 5-1 to win the league in style.

Liverpool still have games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton and Crystal Palace – and will lift the trophy after the final fixture on May 25.

But as it stands, three Liverpool stars are in danger of missing out on a medal in line with official Premier League rules.

Previously rules stipulated that players had to make 10 appearances to receive a Premier League medal but that was reduced to five in 2011 and the requirement has remained in place since then.

Currently, Federico Chiesa, Liverpool’s sole summer signing, has only amassed four appearances in the Premier League after struggling for fitness and form.

The Italian was not among the five substitutes introduced against Spurs and is one appearance away from earning a medal in his first season.

Similarly, youngsters Vitezslav Jaros and Jayden Danns are tied on one appearance each.

Goalkeeper Jaros made his Liverpool and Premier League debut in October when he replaced an injured Alisson late on against Crystal Palace, while Danns scored twice in five games last term.

However, the academy product has struggled with injury this season and managed just 10 minutes in the Premier League against Ipswich Town at the start of the year.

He was sent on loan to Championship side Sunderland in February but was ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a back injury.

Danns’ season is therefore finished but he could very much still be part of the title celebrations.

Federico Chiesa could still get a Premier League medal

Even if Chiesa doesn’t feature again, there is a way for him to receive a medal regardless. Clubs get 40 medals which they can distribute out to players and staff as they see fit – meaning Chiesa could receive one even if he doesn’t accrue five appearances.

With Liverpool having 21 players who have racked up five or more appearances, they will have 19 spare medals and Chiesa, Jaros and Danns will be hoping he gets his hands on one of them despite a lack of gametime.

In 2019/20, Harvey Elliott got his hands on a medal even though he had only played 10 minutes in the Premier League for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
