Trent Alexander-Arnold breaks silence on Liverpool title win with six-word message to fans

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t speak with the media following his side’s Premier League title triumph being confirmed against Spurs this weekend. But he has now posted a message to Reds fans online.

Amid the wait for more news on his contract situation with Real Madrid circling, the Liverpool number 66 posted a collection of pictures from the celebrations at the final whistle. He was heavily involved in making the most of this victory, coming in front of a packed Anfield, unlike the previous time, which was during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“For the City. For the Fans,” he wrote. The post was shared on X and Instagram and featured pictures of him with the rest of his teammates, and also alongside left-back Andy Robertson.

“The last time we won it was a stranger time, but I suppose we kind of got that feeling against Man United at home,” Robertson said. “It was pretty much done at that point with [being] 16 or 19 points clear. It’s not like quite clinching it and then obviously the world paused. It was quite unique the way we did it.

“We enjoyed it, of course we did, but you can’t beat what we experienced today and how we went to the ground and the fans during and after the game. Nothing quite compares to that and I’m glad we got to experience it that way as well.”

Arne Slot, who only arrived at Liverpool last summer, was similarly delighted. He has become the first Dutch coach to win the Premier League and did so at the first time of asking.

“Very, very happy, of course,” he said. “But to a certain extent also quite unreal because you work so hard for this moment to happen and when it then does happen, it needs some time for you to truly feel it. But the fans were so happy that it didn’t take us long, didn’t take me long to understand what we’ve achieved together this season.

“The moment I knew I would become the new head coach over here, that’s already a moment that you’re so proud of — to be part of such a great football club. Then now to be part of the history of this football club is something I think I could only have dreamt of two, three or four years ago.

“I don’t know if it’s funny or not but I think four, five or six years ago it was the first time when I was here when Pep Lijnders invited me that was against Tottenham and I think they won that game 4-0 somewhere around Christmas time. We all know what happened around Tottenham one or two years ago, so now to win it against them is quite special.

“The [person] I was with was my sporting director at Cambuur Leeuwarden where I worked back then, he showed me that we were visiting a match from the U21s where Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Joe [Gomez] were involved in that game. So, a special day and not the first time I was here when we played Tottenham.”
