‘Absolutely’: Mark Lawrenson says Liverpool have a £42m player who’s too ‘injury-prone’, calls for replacement signing

3 Min Read

Liverpool fans are currently on cloud nine in wake of a superb season which has seen them win the Premier League title.

The Reds faithful saw their team win the title for the second time this decade and, this time, they were able to celebrate properly in person.

In addition, Liverpool have renewed the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, two of the biggest stars at Anfield.

No club should rest on their laurels and, with the summer transfer window coming up, Liverpool are likely to be active in the market.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has now claimed that the Reds need reinforcements for a £64million player and his “injury-prone” teammate.

Mark Lawrenson thinks Liverpool need reinforcements up front amid Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota doubts

Lawrenson believes Liverpool boss Arne Slot needs to bring in reinforcements up front in the coming months.

He said Darwin Nunez “just doesn’t score”, which is “not good” for a striker, before saying £42million man Diogo Jota may be a “really good finisher” but is “injury prone”.

Asked whether he feels Liverpool need to sign a new centre-forward, Lawrenson told talkSPORT: “Yeah, absolutely.

“You mentioned Nunez, he stretches his defences, but as you know, he just doesn’t score, which for a striker is not good.

“Jota, really good finisher, injury prone. They need an out-and-out striker who’s quick, but then doesn’t everybody.”

What Liverpool think about potentially selling Darwin Nunez this summer

Nunez continues to divide opinion at Liverpool, with some – like Lawrenson – stressing that he’s simply too wasteful up front and others appreciating what Nunez does as an ‘agent of chaos’.

However, this lack of consensus over Nunez’s suitability for Liverpool means his future remains uncertain.

TBR Football sources previously revealed that Liverpool are willing to sell Nunez, and are demanding over £60million for Nunez.

Liverpool’s demands for Nunez mean he could have few options other than the Saudi Pro League this summer, according to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
