Is this transfer one step closer to happening for Bayern Munich?

According to a report from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Bayern Munich is closing in on a deal with Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz:

Under contract until 2027, Wirtz is one of the most sought-after players at the German club. Announced in the sights of Manchester City, Real Madrid and even Bayern Munich, the Pulheim native maintains the suspense.

And as Bayer Leverkusen prepares to lose their coach Xabi Alonso, we can confirm that a contractual agreement has been reached between Wirtz and Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich. However, no common ground has yet been reached between the two teams. No details (length, salary) have been released, but the future German champion has taken a lead over his competitors. It’s worth noting that the Sky Blues and the Merengues are still trying to convince the player. As is Bayer, who still hopes to extend his contract.

It should be noted that with this report is emerging from France and not any of the prominent German outlets. That does not necessarily mean that it is false or that there is a firm reason to doubt it, but it does leave room to at least be a little skeptical at the moment.
