Will the job sharing in goal work this time?
Very few people expected Jonas Urbig to get any significant game time at Bayern Munich this season. But, with Manuel Neuer injuring himself while celebrating a goal, Jonas Urbig was thrust into action during the business end of the season, forced to compete in a Champions League quarterfinal against Inter Milan and, at the time of writing, play 11 games for Die Rekordmeister.
If Bayern get their way, however, that might be about the same amount of games the former FC Köln goalkeeper will get next season… if you believe a report from Bild’s Tobi Altschäffl, via @iMiaSanMia:
Jonas Urbig is expected to get 10-15 games next season even if Manuel Neuer stays fit the entire season. The captain will take breaks during phases where there are many games. Bayern bosses believe that Urbig will have a big future.
Bayern tried to get Neuer to share his gametime before when Alexander Nübel first joined the club in 2021. The VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper did not fare well and is set to be banished to his 5th loan year in a row. Urbig will hope his big future will be less uncertain that Nübel’s has ended up being.
