How to watch Athletic Bilbao vs. Man Utd in US and UK – TV channel, live stream, team news

5 Min Read

Manchester United is in Europa League action today as Ruben Amorim and his players face Athletic Bilbao in northern Spain. The Red Devils are enduring their worst season in decades as far as the Premier League is concerned, but they can still salvage something from their season in Europe.

Earlier this week, Amorim admitted his team is a way off the best teams in England, but winning the Europa League would secure United a spot in next season’s Champions League and significantly boost the club’s transfer budget ahead of a huge summer window — a summer window that is also going to be significant for Liverpool.

Bilbao, though, is probably the best team that remains in the competition — so it will be a tall order for United to make it through to the final. Here’s how you can watch the game…

Team news

United welcomed Amad and Matthijs de Ligt back to training this week, with the former having been out of action for three months due to an ankle injury. Ruben Amorim confirmed in his pre-game press conference that both players are not ready to start but could be involved off the bench.

United is without Diogo Dalot, Toby Collyer, Ayden Heaven and Altay Bayindir for the game in the Basque Country, while Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez have both been ruled out for the season.

As for Bilbao, top scorer Oihan Sancet has been ruled out of the first leg after picking up an injury in a La Liga game against Las Palmas last week. Dangerous Spain winger Nico Williams, though, is fit after struggling with a groin injury of late.

“Big games are when big players emerge,” Williams said in a press conference on Wednesday. “I’m really looking forward to tomorrow and also the game at Old Trafford. I hope we can score goals because we’re all really excited about this game and we’re going to try to do our best.”

Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde would not confirm which of his goalkeepers is set to get the nod in the game. Back-up goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala has started ahead of regular first-choice pick Unai Simon in all but one of the Spanish club’s Europa League games so far. “I don’t know who United’s goalkeeper will be,” said Valverde. “And I’m not going to tell them [ours].”
