Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly taken a specific stance regarding the potential sale of Joao Gomes.
The West Midlands outfit are currently on one of their best runs of form in their history having won six successive matches in the Premier League.
However, ahead of their trip to Manchester City on Friday night, Wolves are already facing the prospect of losing Matheus Cunha with a £62.5m release clause having been inserted in his contract.
Gomes is another player who has recently penned improved terms at Molineux, club officials moving to strengthen their position in anticipation of big-money bids for the Brazil international.
According to Trivela, Wolves know how they will handle any interest in Gomes with Man City set to be admirers.
What is Wolves’ stance on Gomes?
The report claims that the recently-dethroned Premier League champions have already made enquiries to determine the conditions of a potential deal.
Prior to Gomes signing a new contract, it is suggested that Wolves had set the 24-year-old’s asking price at €60m (£50.99m).
Instead, it is now reported that Wolves have set no specific valuation on Gomes with his deal not due to expire until 2030.
Realistically-speaking, it will now take a greater fee than the aforementioned €60m to tempt Wolves into cashing in on one of their most prized assets.
Since his arrival in January 2023, Gomes has made a total of 77 appearances in the Premier League, chipping in with six goals and two assists.
Man City are also allegedly monitoring any developments with the future of Gomes’s compatriot Andre, yet Wolves may take a similar approach to retaining his services given that he only signed last summer.
Man City considering alternative?
Earlier this week, Man City were linked with an approach for Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara and the above report has backed up those claims.
Sara is no stranger to English football having spent two years in the Championship with Norwich City, the Brazilian having since enhanced his reputation in Turkey.
Pep Guardiola is seemingly eager to add a fresher look to his midfield with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan among those who could potentially depart the Etihad Stadium.
